Another month of July!
It has been more than a month, that i visited this place, or penned down anything. Actually, have been out of action for past few weeks. So what have i been doing ..specially when am unemployed. Well, nothing. All i have been doing is sleeping, resting, and visiting doctors and medical stores.
Yeah, have been dealing with an uncommon thing for more than two months. Now, at a point, where i can not chew, can not speak much, living on pain killers. Practically, i have been having more medicines than food. Each day it is a challenge, to figure out how to fill my stomach. All i can do is gulp the food. After all these days, now am tired of having smoothies, or juices, as they do not satiate the hunger. Have been asking friends who have kids (the little ones), what do they feed them, specially when they do not have teeth or do not know how to chew.
Last few weeks, have been quite knowledgeable. Have learnt so much about chewing and other jaw movements. It makes me wonder, how complex the body is, but at the same time, everything is there in perfect proportion. Every single joint in the body, or a piece of tissue in body has its own purpose. Quite similar to a system where the configuration of each and every part is defined. Coming to thing that's wrong with my body is, there is a joint namely "Temporomandibular joint" near ear and at the end of jaw, that defines the movement of the jaw. It not only defines jaw movement, is also connected to ear, and skull effectively making it a bit complex joint which can have movement in multiple directions and hence can affect a lot of functions in the body. This joint along with relevant muscles, tissues, nerves and ligaments, controls mouth and ear, if untreated can inflict pain in face, teeth, nose, neck, etc. It took me about 7 dentists and 2 otolaryngologists and two months to identify the dislocation of this joint. And probably will take more than a month to undergo the procedure to put a splint inside mouth to get this joint functioning and getting back to normal eating.
Right now having the simplest of the meal is also a dream! All i do in entire day is
- Start day with checking on swelling on face, has it reduced or increased, and how much can i open my mouth. Is it possible to put a spoon inside mouth to eat or not. :(
- Applying ice packs and hot compresses alternatively to keep inflammation in check
- Figuring out what i can eat (as i can't have most of the things)
- Another thing that has started is keeping a check on weight. (Already lost a couple of kgs in last 5 days).
- Popping on pills/painkillers
- Massaging the area nearby
Phew!! This was one more month of July where i had to deal with pain! In last few years (a decade to be precise), the month of July was always full of injuries, pain or accidents in some or the other way. Earlier it used to be with my legs (i would keep getting hurt), this time it is TMJ! And yeah, this time i will have my first splint.
