You Are More Than the Mind

'The real "you" is different from those thoughts. You are reacting to every thought that visits your mind. By reacting to all of them, you are paying attention to your thoughts and feeding them, allowing them to exist. That is how a troubled mind creates a chaotic world.'

This is an excerpt from a book am reading. A book which happens to be a fiction, and i didn't expect to read such a deep line in that one. It made me think, ponder upon even after days of reading the same. This is something that i learnt during Vipassana. My understanding of this is "Things keep on happening around you, whether they are good, bad or negative positive for you, completely depends on how your brain processes it, which is again dependent on what have you fed it in terms of thoughts and inputs (like reading, watching, etc).

They say, we create a version of reality in our mind, which is a product of actual happenings, our thoughts/ideas and our reactions to them. What you pay attention to, becomes your thought process and eventually starts affecting your reality. Mind it, it is your version of reality, may or may not be the actual one! Phew!! This is awesome. I mean, if something bad has happened, i can simply put it aside, categorising it as how my brain is processing it, and it is actually not that bad. And that is what we come to realisation after a few years or when some time has passed, which in other words we say, "Time heals everything" or "Time helps you process things in an objective manner". I feel it becomes really easy to handle difficult stuff (not sure if they are really difficult or our brain making out of it??) if we follow this principle.

For me, am still trying to get this principle in my DNA, and still learning to process things in an objective manner. Hopefully in few years down the line, i would be able to do so! Keeping fingers crossed :D :D
