What's your music type?
As the post title says, what's your music type? Before one answers this question, let's understand what music type means. Based on some researches, one can define your personality based on what kind of music you tend to listen more. Guess we all already agree, that music can define the mood of the person a lot, or people listen to different kinds or genres of music based on their state of mind or mood.
So the question comes to "Is the type of music you listen to, enough to define your personality?" There have been a lot of research on "How music affects our personality" and "How it can be used to define the personality based on trends". And all these research do agree on the fact that music has its impact on the personality and can help us define someone's personality as well.
Or, we can say, music could be read as signature of a person. For example, pop music lovers tend to be extroverted, honest, and conventional; at the same time, rap lovers are more outgoing. The country music fans are typically hardworking and conventional, while the fans of the indie genre are typically introverted and creative. Classical music lovers are typically more introverted and people who prefer dance music are usually outgoing and assertive. (This is based on a research conducted in US, in pre-Covid era).
How do you know your music type? These days, we usually listen music online using the apps available on our smartphones. Some could be using YouTube, Amazon music, Apple music, Spotify or some other players. Every app has its own style of providing music, and all these apps usually process your footprints or music prints (if there is any such words) to identify what kind of music you listen to, at what time of day, for how long, etc. Not just that, these apps process this data to give you suggestions what you can listen to next, and what would you like. I have used all the four mentioned apps, and now am hooked to Spotify! The way this app reads the footprints, it is amazing.
Every year, Spotify based on what you have listened to in the entire year, creates a dedicated playlist for you, namely "You Top songs <year>". It will also give you details about the artists you have listened to the most (not just in terms of number of time, but also the duration), your top "n" songs, and most importantly it segments you based on your listening style, in other words it tells you your music type. Last year when i got mine, i was a bit disappointed, as Spotify could not segment me in any of the music lovers type. As my playlist had almost everything, every kind of music, starting from classical, to pop, to indie to rock to some spiritual songs, with no restriction on language - i.e. i had Hindi, Urdu, Latin, English, Spanish, Turkish, Chinese, Korean, Sinhalese songs in addition to the local regional songs on my playlist.
It's not that i understand all these languages, but i do understand music as a language. I truly believe that there is no barrier when it comes to any form of art, and music tops that chart!
PS: This post is inspired from "International Music Day" and dedicated to all the music lovers! :)
